Excellence through Effort & Enjoyment
Be Kind…Be Safe…Be Responsible

Extreme Heat Weather Warnings - our plan for this week

The Met Office has issued a red extreme heat warning for areas of England on Monday 18 July and Tuesday 19 July, including parts of the East Midlands, East of England, London & South East England, North West England, South West England and Yorkshire & Humber. The red warningindicates an exceptional hot spell of weather leading to widespread impacts on people and infrastructure.

Schools are not being advised to close, but need to manage their individual circumstances.  Having read the government guidance and assessed the risks, the following precautions will be in place:

  • No P.E. or vigorous physical activity this week
  • Outdoor breaks will be shortened and we will have gazebos set up with quiet activities in the shade
  • We will do our best to keep the classrooms as cool as we can, by keeping windows open until the outdoor temperature is warmer than indoors, by using mechanical fans while the temperature is below 35 degrees, and keeping the use of electrical lighting and devices to a minimum
  • Children will have continuous access to water to ensure they remain hydrated
  • Tomorrow’s family assembly for Reception and Year 1 will be postponed, as conditions will be too hot for the children and audience (see new dates below).

Family Assemblies rescheduled:

Wednesday 20th July @ 2p.m. Reception, Year 1 and Year 2

Thursday 21st July @ 2p.m. Y3, Y4 and Y5

Leavers’ assembly will be as planned, on Friday 22nd July @ 1.15p.m. Only parents and families of pupils in Y6 are invited to attend this.

We plan to hold the assemblies outdoors, however there is now a chance of heavy rain on Wednesday.  If we need to move the assembly indoors, we may need to limit numbers attending. I will advise parents as soon as I can, if this will be the case.

Many thanks for your ongoing support.
