Excellence through Effort & Enjoyment
Be Kind…Be Safe…Be Responsible

Week 4 Learning Journey

Find out what we have been getting up to during the fourth week of term.

This week we have been reading the Highway Rat and creating actions to help us remember key parts of the story. On Thursday the Highway Rat left us a message, telling us he had stolen our water bottles. The children thought of lots of fantastic ideas to get our bottles back and recalled events from the story.

All the children wrote a 'Wanted' poster, writing super sentences to warn other children about the rat and demanding the return of our bottles. We were successful and the bottles were returned with an apology note from the rat.

In maths we have been learning how to subtract. The children have loved playing the bus stop game and working out how many passengers are left at each stop. We have been singing lots of subtraction songs to help our understanding of subtraction, including Five Little Monkeys and Ten Fat Sausages.

Of course the weather has had a big impact on our play this week.  We have been exploring all the ice that has formed in our outdoor area: comparing sizes, thickness, measuring and weighing the ice. On the snowy day, we threw snowballs at number and tricky word targets and of course couldn't resist making snow angels.
