Term 6 Week 1, 1st June 2020
Hello! This is the first week of our final term. This lockdown business really has flown by! On the blog today, we have suggested activities for the week and another project to keep you busy until the 1st July.
This week in Maths we are looking at fractions again. It is a big unit that needs to be attempted in small chunks. Please click on the link below this paragraph to access the White Rose home learning videos. Make sure you are on (Summer term – Week 6 (w/c 1st June) where you will be learning about tenths and decimals, fractions on a number line and fractions of a set of objects. Watch the videos and then attempt the activity sheets attached to the bottom of this blog. I’m sure you are all professionals by now! Remember there are also these units on Mathletics for you to attempt if you wish.
Talk For Writing have released another home learning booklet for you to attempt. Please find the link at the bottom of this paragraph for the booklet. On the Talk For Writing website you will find two new booklets for Year 3 that have been released, please start with the one linked below and you can attempt the other one if you finish the first. At the start of the booklet it refers to the book ‘The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe’; before Christmas as a whole class we read the book and watched the film. All the children loved this magical adventure, so you could re-read it at home or even watch the film again. As a school we will be donating towards the charity Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Spellings this week are looking at the rule words ending in the suffix – al. A suffix is a group of letters that go at the end of a word. Please let me know what you get in your home learning tests to earn extra house points.
In school, the Year 3 and other Key Stage 2 Key Worker children will be doing a brand new story as their class novel, The Ickabog by J.K. Rowling. This story is being released completely free, online if you follow the link below. There is also an illustration competition running which is linked on the website and open until the 17thJuly. This is a chance to have your drawing included in the book when it is printed later this year which would be amazing! Let me know if you have a go and I'd love to hear what you think about the book. I am going to try to read it too.
Northamptonshire Virtual School Games
The Northamptonshire Virtual School Games has begun and we will be joining schools from all over the county in taking part in a series of weekly sporting challenges over the next couple of months.
All you need to do is watch the challenge videos once they are released Virtual School Games website (www.northamptonshiresport.org/school-games), Facebook or Twitter at 10am Monday morning and then have a go at home or school.
Once you have completed the challenges, log your attempts as many times as you complete them on the Virtual School Games website. For every challenge logged, the school earns Participation Points which are then used to crown the weekly champions. You can also upload your photos and videos attempting the challenges for the chance to win prizes for yourself as well.
As an extra incentive 20 house points will be awarded for each attempt. Northamptonshire Sport will inform me of each attempt and I will update the house point totals.
The project we would like you to be working on until the 1st July is based on Minibeasts. We have given you a range of activities for you to attempt, you might choose to do all of them or only a few. Make sure you email in your completed tasks to earn house points. I have attached a sheet below containing more instructions and the tasks.
If you have any questions on any of these suggested activities, please email me on email@example.com . I hope you all have a great week.
