Sport at Boughton in Term 1
What a term we have had:
We came back after the summer holidays and kicked off with Freestyle Soccer taster sessions. In the same week we had a Hotshots taster sessions (for basketball). The children thoroughly enjoyed these sessions.
Miss Willix and Miss Vaughan, who had great success last year with younger year groups, started Strictly Come Dancing with Year 5/6 children this term. They have been practising hard and we can't wait to see the children dancing very soon. Last week, along with help from School Privilege children they ran an extremely successful fund-raising event for Strictly.
We had a fantastic Tennis coach come in from the Northampton Lawn Tennis Club. He led coaching sessions for all of Key Stage 1 and 2. Over the last couple of years we have been working closely with this club to achieve a club link, which we can utilise for children who we see potential in.
We took part in a Year 5/6 Football Tournament at Moulton School. As always the children were extremely well behaved, worked hard and achieved well. We came away winners and will be going forward to the next round of competition in November.
Our Year 6 Sports Crew interviewed and chose their new Year 5 counterparts. Although Miss Sadler was in the room the Year 6 children took charge, asked their own questions, made notes, deliberated and chose four new Sports Crew members. Well done to all those who took part in the interview process you were all fantastic.
Some Year 5/6 children took part in a Tag Rugby Tournament at Daventry Rugby Club. It was a great afternoon with a large number of schools participating. We came 7th overall, with 21 teams competing.
Some of our budding future rugby players in Year 3 have been keen to start their own rugby club. So with help from some Year 6 Leaders, Thursday break time children have been invited to play some Tag Rugby activities on the field.
Wow, when I started writing this I underestimated everything that we have done this term. I would just like to thank all the staff that have supported, taught or encouraged PE and sport in school. Also to all parents for your support, this makes organising and taking part in all this sport much easier and more enjoyable.
