Excellence through Effort & Enjoyment
Be Kind…Be Safe…Be Responsible

Poetry

This term Year 5 are looking at poetry,

We began by reading 'The Cave of Curiosity' and creating actions to the poem to help us remember it.

This week we have been creating our own version of the poem together:

The Forest of Fantasies

In the forest of fantasies, I imagined,

an amazed aardvark analysing an antelope,

a baffled badger bumbling by,

and a feeble fox foraging for food in a phone box.

In the forest of fantasies, I imagined,

the sound of secrets whispering to the trees,

a wolf’s eyes glowing,

as the trees twist and turn and leaves lay lifeless on the ground.

In the forest of fantasies, I imagined,

the touch of comforting cotton in a moment of need,

the bitterness of a lemon on my tongue,

and the heat of a campfire as it roasts marshmallows.

In the forest of fantasies, I imagined,

the coldness of a breath as it freezes mid-air,

the softness of sap as it seeps from a tree,

and the feeling of fear as the dark tiptoes across the dusk sky.

In the forest of fantasies, I found,

the sun’s warm rays imprisoned in a jar,

the joy of a roller coaster as it races rapidly round a track,

and the sincerity of the sunset as the darkness stretches its ghostly fingers.

What a fabulous poem, that all year 5 helped to create!

I can't wait to share their own poems next week!
